Braces are the "set it and forget it" treatment option for tooth movement. Braces are bonded to each individual tooth and are working all the time. There's no need to remove a mouthpiece before eating or make sure it’s in for at least 20 hours daily. At Stable Orthodontics, you can choose what style of braces is put on your teeth. To begin your treatment, you’ll come to our office for an orthodontic consultation. Photos, a tooth scan, and a dental x-ray will be taken to gather initial measurements. Dr. Tauber will discuss all of your options for treatment and help explain the best plan for your treatment. If you decide to straighten your teeth with braces, you can have your braces placed the same day which eliminates taking more time from your busy schedule. The entire process can take less than 2 hours.
Once your braces are placed on your teeth, you will need to come back into the office for adjustments. These are usually done once every 6-12 weeks, and take about half an hour. During these appointments, Dr. Tauber will check on your progress and make changes to your braces to make sure your teeth keep moving toward the proper position.
Most patients wear braces anywhere from 12-24 months. Once your treatment is over, Dr. Tauber will remove your braces and you will receive a set of final retainers. Retainers help your teeth maintain the proper position after your braces are removed. You’ll wear these at night to make sure your teeth don’t move back to the original position.
Braces work by applying gradual pressure on the teeth, slowly moving them into the desired alignment. The jaw bone adapts as the braces apply pressure over time, which allows the teeth and their roots to adjust. While all cases are unique, it can take anywhere from six months to two years to correct your smile with braces.
As one of the most popular and affordable methods to straighten teeth, traditional braces are an effective solution for individuals struggling with a variety of orthodontic issues. Metal braces are extremely durable and are able to withstand daily wear, chewing, and brushing throughout the duration of your treatment. Unlike removable clear aligners, traditional braces are firmly planted to your teeth, so you don’t have to worry about maintaining the effectiveness of your orthodontic care.
Caring for your braces is similar to regular oral healthcare. Make sure to use a soft-bristled brush to keep your teeth, brackets, and wires clean and free from debris. Your orthodontist may provide you with a V-shaped toothbrush to ensure efficient brushing in between brackets. Don’t forget to floss! Stiff-tipped floss picks are perfect for removing food lodged in spots that may be tough to reach. Visit your orthodontist for regular follow-ups to ensure your teeth are adjusting properly and you’ll be braces-free in no time.
